SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Purdue Fort Wayne men's basketball senior John Konchar has been named the Summit League Athlete of the Month for December, the league announced on Tuesday (Jan. 8).

Konchar averaged 23.5 ppg, 10.8 RPG and 4.5 APG in eight December contests for the Mastodons.

He’s helped push the ‘Dons to five straight wins and a 3-0 mark in league play. Two of those victories came on back-to-back days late in the month as Purdue Fort Wayne opened Summit League play with road wins at North Dakota and North Dakota State.

Konchar averaged 28.0 ppg, 10.5 RPG and 4.5 APG in those two contests, including a career-high 38-point effort in a win over North Dakota State where he buried a game-winning 3-pointer with seven ticks of a second remaining in overtime.

In December, he amassed six double-doubles and reached the 20-plus point plateau five times.

Konchar currently ranks second in The Summit League in scoring (19.9 ppg), rebounding (9.4 RPG) and tops the league in assists (4.9 APG).

He is Purdue Fort Wayne’s first Male Athlete of the Month since men’s basketball’s Max Landis won the award in February 2016. Cross country’s Emma Rafuse won the October 2018 Female Athlete of the Month honor this season.

The Mastodons host Oral Roberts on Thursday (Jan. 10).
